AP Physics

Physics 1, Physics 2 and Physics C: Mechanics

← All subjects

Algebra-based Physics 1 and 2, and calculus-based Physics C: Mechanics, built around the problems the exam actually asks.

How the exam runs

Physics 1, Physics 2 and Physics C: Mechanics are three separate exams that run the same way: multiple choice in the Bluebook app, then four free-response questions answered by hand on paper.

  • The four free-response questions are one of each kind: mathematical routines, translation between representations, experimental design and analysis, and qualitative/quantitative translation.
  • New for May 2027: multiple choice has 42 questions in 85 minutes, up from 40 in 80.

How it’s taken
At school, in the Bluebook app, with free-response answers written in a paper booklet.
Calculator
Allowed for the whole exam: a four-function, scientific or graphing calculator, or the Desmos calculator in Bluebook. A ruler is allowed too.
Provided
A table of equations, on screen and on paper. Some equations aren’t on it and have to be worked out.
